Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confident Paul Pogba will be at Manchester United next season

Manchester United have apparently identified Fiorentina's Nikola Milenkovic as a possible alternative to Leicester City's Harry Maguire.

United are desperate to add a new centre back this summer as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer bids to sure up his defence further following the arrival of Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Crystal Palace.

The Foxes are said to be chasing as much as £90m for the England international prompting United to explore other options.

One of them could be 21-year-old Milenkovic, according to the Mirror.

United are said to have bid £36m for the Serbian international back in January with Fiorentina holding out for closer to £45m.

A move for Bruno Fernandes is entirely dependant on Paul Pogba.

That's according to the Manchester Evening News.

They say that United won't move for the Sporting midfielder unless the French international leaves.

Real Madrid remain Pogba's top suitors but they are yet to make an offer that gets anywhere near United's valuation of the player.

Club sources remain adamant that Pogba won't be sold at any price leaving any move for Fernandes up in the air.

United join Arsenal and Leicester in the race to sign Southampton midfielder Mario Lemina, who handed prospective clubs a transfer boost by revealing he wants to stay in England and play for a “big club”.

United view the £20m-rated player as an affordable midfield re-enforcement following the departure of Ander Herrera and Nemanja Matic’s downturn in form over the last 12 months.

“The best thing for me would be to stay here (England),” Lemina told France Football. “I aspire to play in the very biggest clubs, now we will see what is offered to me.”

The club have no plans to turn their attention to Christian Eriksen should they fail to land any of their other transfer targets.

Solskjaer would rather play Pogba and Matic next season rather than break the bank to pay the £70-£80m that Tottenham would demand, claim The Evening Standard.

David De Gea has delayed signing a new contract at United, but Solskjaer is confident an agreement will be reached soon.

The star goalkeeper has attracted interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs, including PSG and Real Madrid, and is holding out for terms that could make him the highest paid player at the club on as much as £500,000 per week.

“David has had a summer where he’s been negotiating and we hope we’re going to get it sorted,” Solskjaer said.

In possible departures Romelu Lukaku appears to be edging closer to the exit door.

Fabrizio Romano reports that Inter Milan have offered a package worth €70m for the Belgian international.

That includes €10m up front ahead of a two-year loan followed by €60m at the end for the permanent transfer.

It remains to be seen whether United are open to such terms.
