Manchester United transfer news: Thomas Meunier an option for United from PSG as club compile reports on Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Kieran Trippier

The Belgian international has just over a year left on his contract and won't extend his deal for now

Manchester United are considering Thomas Meunier as an option for the troublesome right-back position this summer.

The Paris Saint-Germain defender would represent an experienced choice to fill Antonio Valencia's boots when the Ecuadorean veteran leaves the club at the end of the season.

United's hierarchy likes Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Kieran Trippier as longer-term signings but Meunier, a big United fan, would be both affordable and far easier to negotiate than trying to pry Wan-Bissaka or Trippier away from reluctant selling clubs. The same applies for Reece James at Chelsea.

With just 14 months remaining on Meunier's PSG contract and another league title assured, the Belgium international's camp are keenly looking for a move away from the French capital.

The key sticking point may prove to be whether United can offer the player enough regular football, with Meunier's principal complaint about life under Thomas Tuchel focusing on a lack of minutes.

"Am I unhappy about being a sub more often than a starter? Of course, like any competitor would be. I have my theories as to why but don't want to go into them," he told Belgian newspaper l'Avenir.

"I have a year left on my contract, no point creating a fuss. As to extending contract of leaving? Good question! Discussions are going slowly. I get that my case is not a priority, but since nothing has moved, the message seems pretty clear to me."

Everton have also been credited with an interest in the player and Meunier admits that Premier League clubs have made contact - but they aren't the only ones looking for a right-back with extensive experience at the top level in Europe.

"I've never hidden [my desire to move to the Premier League] and there is interest, but there's been interest from everywhere, including China and the Middle East."
