Arsenal have entered the race to sign Borussia Dortmund's World Cup-winning defender Mats Hummels, according to reports.

The Mirror have reported that the Gunners manager Arsene Wenger has demanded to be kept in the loop regarding the availability of the 25-year-old, who has also interested Manchester United.

United are reportedly ready to table a £30m bid for the player.

Hummels has made 36 appearances for the Germany national team, and was an integral member of their recent World Cup-winning side.

Wenger revealed at the weekend that he hopes to bring in at least one more player before the close of the transfer window.

"Who's next? I don't know," Wenger said when asked about possible new arrivals. "There could still be one signing, maximum of two. If a good opportunity comes up we might still do it, but at the moment we are not close to signing anybody."
