Petr Cech to Arsenal confirmed: Who should make way - David Ospina or Wojciech Szczesny?

Petr Cech has completed his £11m transfer to Arsenal and will immediately become the first choice stopper at the Emirates.

But with two talented goalkeepers in David Ospina and Wojciech Szczesny already at the club, one must make way.

The latest reports suggest Ospina is the most likely to leave, but is that the wisest choice? Would it be better to let Szczesny depart?

We've taken a look at their statistics to help Arsene Wenger make an informed decision.

Just looking at the Premier League, the pair played an almost identical number of matches last season with Szczesny featuring in 17 and Ospina in 18.

During those games, Ospina made just 0.06 errors per game that led to goals. In contrast, Szczesny made 0.18. Ospina had far more clean sheets - 0.44 per match to 0.18 for Szczesny. The Colombian stopper also made more saves per game - 1.94 to 1.65 and more saves per goal conceded - 3.18 to 1.4 for Szczesny.

The only areas in which Szczesny performed better than his Colombian competitor were in distribution and preferring not to punch. Szczesny had a successful distribution level of 68 per cent compared to 60 per cent for Ospina. The former also made just 0.15 punches per match compared to 0.56 for Ospina.

Ospina clearly comes out more favourably based on the stats, but Wenger will have other issues to consider. Ospina only arrived last summer whilst Szczesny joined the club's youth set-up as a 16-year-old. Having invested so much time in the Polish stopper, Wenger could be reluctant to give up on him.

Discipline may also be something Wenger considers, with Szczesny being reprimanded (not for the first time) after the 25-year-old was caught smoking in the changing rooms after a defeat to Southampton at the turn of the year.

The players themselves will also have their say, with both aware that Cech will be nearly impossible to dislodge from between the sticks. Whoever is the most prepared to warm the bench could play a major role in determining who leaves the Emirates.
