Philippe Coutinho: Liverpool playmaker denies knowledge of reported £23million PSG bid

The 23-year-old Brazil international spoke to journalists after scoring a Copa America hat-trick in a 7-1 demoltion of Haiti

Philippe Coutinho, the Liverpool playmaker, has denied any knowledge of an offer from Paris Saint-Germain.

The 23-year-old is currently on international duty with Brazil at this year’s Copa America and scored a hat-trick in his side’s 7-1 win over Haiti on Wednesday.

Coutinho’s man-of-the-match performance followed reports that the Ligue 1 champions had lodged an initial and unsuccessful offer of £23m for his signature.

However, while speaking to reporters after the Seleção’s emphatic win, Coutinho claimed that he was not aware of any bid.

“As far as I know, there’s no offer,” he said. “I’m here with the national team, this subject is for my representatives.

“More important for me is to be here, focused on the national team and having a good tournament. That’s where my head is.”

The Brazil international, who has also attracted interest from Barcelona in recent months, has four years remaining on his contract with Liverpool and has never claimed to be unhappy at Anfield.

Last October, following the dismissal of Brendan Rodgers, Coutinho’s agent

"Philippe is extremely happy at Liverpool," said Kia Joorabchian. "He signed a new long term contract towards the end of last season that represents his ambition and his feeling for Liverpool.

“Reports that I have been talking to Real Madrid about Philippe are not true. His aspirations are to qualify for the Champions League with Liverpool this season and to win a trophy. That is all that he is focussed on – and nothing else."

Liverpool failed to qualify for any form of European competition under Rodgers’ replacement, Jürgen Klopp, but narrowly missed out on a place in next season’s Champions League by losing the Europa League final to Sevilla.
