Everton are worried they will lose Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United in the summer, according to reports.

During the international break Lukaku, his father Roger and his agent Mino Raiola all made comments about the striker's future.

Manager Roberto Martinez may have dismissed speculation that the Belgian will leave Goodison Park, but the Daily Mirror report that privately the club believe they could be fighting a losing battle.

A further problem for Everton is that Lukaku may wish to play at Old Trafford even if Louis van Gaal fails to take United to the Champions League next season.

Although Jose Mourinho sold Lukaku from Chelsea, and sent him out on loan spells to West Bromwich Albion and Everton, the Portuguese is also believed to be an attractive option for Lukaku, with no animosity existing between the pair.

Mourinho is the odds-on favourite to take over from Van Gaal in the summer, who is under extreme pressure despite having a year remaining on his contract.

United are desperate to land a big-name striker this summer as they prepare another massive rebuild of their squad.

Real Madrid, Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain have all been linked to the 22-year-old.

Lukaku has 61 golas in 117 matches for Everton.
