Manchester United have been warned that Romelu Lukaku will cost them as much as £65m in the summer if they want to sign the talented Belgium international. The 22-year-old has impressed this season for Everton, as he sits alongside Leicester’s Jamie Vardy at the top of the goalscoring charts with 15 goals this season.

The Sun report today that United have been monitoring the striker and could make a move for him at the end of the season, though Everton are known to be hugely reluctant to let their club-record £28m signing go just two years after signing him on a permanent deal from Chelsea.

Lukaku has spoken of his own desire to play in the Champions League, having become the fourth-youngest striker in Premier League history to reach 50 goals in the top flight before turning 23, but Everton have reportedly slapped on the huge price-tag in order to fend off interest from leading clubs across Europe.

Tottenham are believed to have made a £23m offer for Atletico Madrid striker Jackson Martinez, according to reports in Spain. The Colombia international has struggled to adapt to life in La Liga, having scored just three times in 20 appearances despite Atletico currently topping the table, and he has fallen behind both Luciano Vietto and Antoine Griezmann in Diego Simeone’s pecking order.

Spanish newspaper Marca claims that Spurs have lodged the offer with Atletico with a view to bringing in support for Harry Kane, though they add that the bid has already been rejected as the club are unwilling to dip below the £26.6m they signed him for from Porto last summer.

Spurs are also determined to land highly-rated Coventry midfielder James Maddison, as revealed by the Independent, despite missing out on the 19-year-old in the summer. Spurs will look to fend off competition from Liverpool, Everton, Manchester City, Newcastle United and Southampton, and will loan Maddison back to the Sky Blues for the rest of the season should a deal be completed.

West Ham have emerged as shock contenders to make a move for Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge, according to the Brentwood Gazette. Sturridge has started just four matches this season and just 13 times in the last year, and Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp has already ruled him out of the FA Cup replay with Exeter tonight due to “an issue”.

January Transfer window - completed deals

However, it’s reported that West Ham could offer up to £18m for the injury-prone striker, and that Klopp could consider cashing in on the England international to help fund a transfer budget to rebuild his own team.

Chelsea are said to interested in Watford striker Odion Ighalo as a potential solution to their problems in attack. While Diego Costa has refound his form of late, he is receiving little support from Loic Remy and Radamel Falcao with both struggling with injuries, and The Mirror reports that Ighalo could be brought in to allow the Blues to let Remy and Falcao leave.

However, The Telegraph adds that Monaco could yet recall Falcao this month in a bid to bring him back to full fitness and play some part in the remainder of their season.

Finally, Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure’s agent has once again thrown the Ivory Coast international’s future at the Etihad Stadium in serious doubt after admitting that they will listen to “every offer” that comes in for him in the summer.

Outspoken football agent Dimitri Seluk has spoken of a potential departure from City in the past, and his latest comments will do nothing to dampen the idea that he is simply trying to generate a better pay-day for Toure, be it at City or elsewhere. Speaking to Italian news outlet SportItalia, Seluk said: “He won’t move in January, but in the summer everything could change.”

But comments from the 32-year-old midfielder earlier this month revealed that he was close to leaving the club in the past only to stay due to the impact of Manuel Pellegrini, and with one year left to run on his current deal at the end of the season and Pellegrini facing the prospect of being replaced as manager with Pep Guardiola available, Toure could be on the move.

“I’ve stayed because of Manuel,” Toure said. “He always talks to me, giving me some piece of advice. He has been aware of my life off the pitch.”
