West Bromwich Albion could break their club transfer record to sign Salomon Rondon from Zenit St Petersburg.

The Venezuelan striker had been a target for Liverpool earlier this summer, before the Reds agreed a move for Christian Benteke.

The 25-year-old has 28 goals in 57 matches for Zenit since joining the club from Rubin Kazan in 2014.

West Brom boss Tony Pulis has already brought in Rickie Lambert to bolster his options, with last season's top scorer Saido Berahino still linked with a move away from The Hawthorns.

Brown Ideye, bought for a record £10m, could be allowed to leave after scoring just seven goals in 30 matches in all competitions last season; he could be available for around £6m.

Rondon is a quick, physical presence who stands 6ft 3in, he also has 13 international goals in 39 caps.
