The transfer window is open which means it's that time of year when stories of clubs spending ludicrous sums of money on players you've never heard of is par for the course. Here, we take a look at some of today's more intriguing rumours...

Manchester City look set to take their summer spending spree to triple figures with a bid for Benfica winger Eduardo Salvio. The offer is believed to be around £25.8m. Salvio would join new signing Alvaro Negredo and Stevan Jovetic who is close to securing a deal.

Tottenham and Liverpool look set to battle for two players' signatures this summer in Porto midfielder Atsu and Atletico Mineiro’s Bernard. The Brazilian Bernard, has stated his intention to leave, with £18m believed to be the price that will seal the deal. Meanwhile Atsu’s club Porto have said they will listen to offers after the Ghanaian winger refused to sign a new deal.

One of the main transfer sagas of the summer in Luis Suarez could come to a conclusion with Arsenal set to make a new bid of £40m. The Uruguayan has made his intentions clear to leave Anfield with Liverpool rejecting the idea but Arsene Wenger is looking to make Suarez his record signing.

David Moyes is still yet to make an impact in the transfer market for Manchester United; his first signing though could be imminent. PSG midfielder Marco Verratti, the Italian who has rejected a new contract with the French side, is looking for a contract of £2.5m a year with United willing to offer it.

Liverpool are to make their second approach in a week for Newcastle’s Hatem Ben Arfa. The French international who endured an injury hit season last year is seen as a main target for Brendan Rodgers.

Finally, West Ham’s deal for Duvan Zapata has come to an end. The Columbian striker was set for an £8m move to Upton Park when the deal was scrapped due to work permit issues. The Hammers will now move in for QPR’s Loic Remy to partner Andy Carroll.
