The transfer window is open which means it's that time of year when stories of clubs spending ludicrous sums of money on players you've never heard of is par for the course. Here, we take a look at some of today's more intriguing rumours...

Manchester City are reportedly on the brink of signing two strikers as Manuel Pellegrini prepares to act on the shortage of goal scorers at Eastlands. A transfer bid for Alvaro Negredo is expected to happen today with the fee set to be in the region of €28million. Over in Italy, City are set to trigger Stevan Jovetic's release clause.

Another club looking to strengthen their forward line are Hull City. Last week, Steve Bruce missed out on Charlie Austin and threw in the towel when it came to Gary Hooper, but now two more targets are on the horizon. Danny Graham and Nicklas Bendtner are the names in the frame to try and get the goals to keep the Tigers in the Premier League this season.

To Sunderland, where one of their transfer targets may not be arriving at the Stadium of Light in this window. The Black Cats have apparently stalled on a bid for Spurs' Tom Huddlestone which has opened the door for Fulham to declare their interest in the 26-year-old.

After Manchester United's surprise £26m bid for Cesc Fabregas yesterday it seems that David Moyes may turn his attention to his defence rather than his attack. Reports this morning say that the Premier League champions are interested in Roma's Marquinhos and Benfica's Ezequiel Garay as Nemanja Vidic's longetivity is in doubt.

West Ham look set to sign former Netherlands international Orlando Engelaar. They Hammers have had the 33 year-old on trial and manager Sam Allardyce admits a decision will be made soon by the club. Engelaar made an appearance for West Ham in their 2-0 pre-season friendly win against Bournemouth on Saturday.

And finally, after Edinson Cavani packed his bags and headed for Paris; Jose Mourinho lost one of his main transfer targets for this summer. However, it seems he hasn't spent much time thinking of a suitable replacement.  Reports have suggested  that the Blues will put in a shock bid for PSG star Zlatan Ibrahimovic due to the Ligue 1 side capturing Cavani.
