Tottenham Hotspur 'set to beat' Arsenal to the signature of Barcelona's David Villa

Reports claim Spurs have begun to show interest in the Spain international

Tottenham are said to be looking at Barcelona striker David Villa as they look to improve their striking options.

The 31-year-old, also reportedly a target of fierce rivals Arsenal, looks set to be available this summer as his Catalan employers look to overhaul their squad.

Villa is said to be keen to gain more playing time ahead of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and so a move to the capital could be perfect although Spurs still disagree on his £12m valuation, with £7m thought to be their preferred price.

Arsenal as well as Tottenham made enquiries about acquiring the services of the Spanish international in January but Barcelona were reluctant to sell at that time.

Spurs are also reportedly interested in signing Sevilla centre-back Alberto Botia, who is said to be a target of both Wigan and Swansea, due to concerns about Steven Caulker's future and with the departure of William Gallas expected.
