Transfer news: Arsenal could strengthen attack in January with loan-move for Juventus striker Fernando Llorente

The Spaniard has fallen out of the Spanish national squad and is frustrated at his lack of playing time in Turin

Arsenal could make a move for Juventus striker Fernando Llorente in January with a view to taking the midfielder on loan until the end of the season.

The Gunners sit at the top of the Premier League table, although they are significantly light in attack with Olivier Giroud having started eleven of their twelve games so far, and the returning Nicklas Bendtner making his first appearance in two years in the Capital One Cup penalty shootout win over West Brom.

The Danish striker spent last season with the Italian league champions, but they chose not to make a permanent move for him after signing both Llorente and Carlos Tevez in the summer.

It is the former Manchester City forward that is currently keeping Llorente out of the first team in Turin, and his lack of playing time has seen the 28-year-old drop out of Vicente Del Bosque’s Spain squad at a crucial time. With the World Cup next summer, Del Bosque will be finalising his plans for the tournament in Brazil, and with David Villa, Fernando Torres and Roberto Soldado all in contention along with the recently called up Michu of Swansea City, Llorente knows he must be playing regularly to stand any chance of booking his place next year.

The Spaniard left Athletic Bilbao in the summer after signing a pre-contract with Juventus, but he has started just twice this season and is becoming frustrated with his lack of opportunities under manager Antonio Conte.

Arsenal scouts have watch Llorente on many occasions, having been interested in his services during his time in Spain, and Arsene Wenger could move to strengthen his side by resuming his interest in the frontman.

With Yaya Sanogo yet to return from a back injury after his summer move from Auxerre, Gunners’ fans are fearful that should Giroud suffer a long-term injury or suspension, there would be insufficient back-up to continue their title assault.

Meanwhile, Wenger looks to be edging closer to a new contract with the north London club after he admitted he could easily spend the rest of his life in London.

“I can see the rest of my life in England, why not?,” Wenger said.

“I feel comfortable in this country because we share a common passion for football and as well I am very thankful for this country for having accepted me and giving me a chance. I am happy on the football pitch.”
