Transfer news: Everton striker Nikica Jelavic convinced to make £6.5m switch to Hull City

Steve Bruce plays crucial role in securing forward

Nikica Jelavic revealed that he decided on a £6.5m move to Hull City from Everton after being sold on the move by the Hull manager, Steve Bruce.

The two clubs agreed a fee for the Croatia international striker on Friday and all that remains is for personal terms to be finalised.

The Everton manager, Roberto Martinez, has allowed Jelavic to leave to help his World Cup ambitions as the striker has been reduced to a bit-part player at Goodison Park after the loan signing of Romelu Lukaku.

"Steve Bruce called me and told me that he wants me in his team as a leading attacker," Jelavic told Croatian newspaper Jutarnji list.

"He asked me if I'm ready to move, then talked briefly about the club, his coaching philosophy and about the club's goals.

"He was very confident during that conversation and after that I agreed to move to Hull City. The club suits me and I'm happy that the clubs have found an agreement for my transfer."

Jelavic joined Everton from Rangers in January 2012 for £5m and had an immediate impact, scoring 11 goals before the end of the season as he finished as Everton's top scorer.

However, his form tailed off significantly in the second half of last season and he has struggled to break into Martinez's side following the arrival of Lukaku on loan from Chelsea. Jelavic has yet to score a league goal this season.
