Steven Defour’s future looks likely to be settled on Thursday with negotiations between his agent and Porto continuing.

Fulham and Schalke are leading the chase for the Belgian midfielder, who has been told he can leave the Portuguese champions having barely featured this season. Rene Meulensteen’s side are interested in a loan until the end of the season but the sticking point is whether Porto want to sell him.

“They will take the decision tomorrow. We just have to wait,” said the player's agent Paul Stefani.

“It’s normal that they take their time over a big decision like this.”

Defour moved to Portugal from Standard Liege in 2011 but has only started six league games this season. Belgian champions Anderlecht are keen on a permanent deal but Stefani denied rumours that Tottenham could also be lining up a bid.

He said: “I’ve not heard anything about Tottenham – we have some interest from Fulham and clubs in Germany as well. But he would like very much to come to England. There are still  a few days left so we will try to do the best for the boy. He wants to be playing as soon as possible but even if he doesn’t Belgium will take him to Brazil. The coach in Belgium likes him very much.”
