Arsenal, Tottenham and Liverpool have expressed interest in signing James Milner, after the midfielder told Manchester City and manager Manuel Pellegrini that he wants to leave the club, according to reports.

The 28-year-old, who only started 12 league games for City last season, scoring just once, has been overlooked in his favoured central midfield role and has now handed in a transfer request.

Arsenal want to sign a new player in their engine room in attempt to sustain a title challenge next season while Liverpool are looking to bolster their squad for the added fixtures of the Champions League and the news of Milner’s unrest at the Etihad has grabbed both club’s attention.

Tottenham have also shown interest in the England player, currently away on World Cup preparations, suggesting he will have no shortage of options if he does leave City.

Arsenal are allegedly weighing up a £10million offer for Milner as they look to beat off the other competition for his signature.

Should he leave, City will be left with a major issue regarding how many 'home grown' players they have in their squad.

At the moment, if Milner goes, only goalkeeper Joe Hart would remain as a regular English player.

City have plans to sell Micah Richards, Jack Rodwell, Scott Sinclair, Gareth Barry and Joleon Lescott but are reported to be interested in signing Stoke’s Ryan Shawcross which would help with the issue without jeopardising quality.

Gael Clichy and Dedryck Boyata would qualify as 'home grown' but the lack of Englishmen is likely to not sit well among fans and the league officials.
