Manchester United manager David Moyes has been linked with a shock move for Tottenham Hotspur winger Andros Townsend on the final day of the transfer window.

The Sun reported this morning that the United boss has monitored the England international's progress since his time at Everton and is desperate to sign him in time for a late assault on the Champions League places.

Moyes had enquired about his services in the summer but was put-off by Tottenham's £8m valuation.

The required fee will now have to be in excess of £15m if they are to tempt Spurs into parting with their youngster, but Moyes is understood to be undeterred.

The move may have to be sidelined until the end of the season but the Premier League champions hope to sweeten their rivals by loaning Nani to the White Hart Lane club today.

Tim Sherwood has worked with Townsend right through the club's academy set-up and is thought to be considering the player's best interests, as well as his club's.

Daniel Levy, on the other hand, will surely present a firm stumbling block to any deal.

Townsend took to Twitter this morning, expressing his excitement ahead of deadline day.

"Happy transfer deadline day guys! Haha And Merry Christmas to Jim White #hisfavouritedayoftheyear" he said.

Moyes was insistent that his business is done, however, saying: "You can stand your cameras down.

"I don't think they will be required. We have done our business."
