Former Cardiff City and Nottingham Forest forward Rob Earnshaw looks likely to return to English football after he left MLS side Toronto FC who are preparing for the arrival of Jermaine Defoe.

The Canadian outfit have signed Defoe from Tottenham and Bradley Orr from Blackburn in recent weeks but Earnshaw, a former Welsh international, won't be there when the American season starts in February.

"Thank you to Toronto FC for their kindness this past year," he said

"Ryan Nelsen (the Toronto manager) wanted me to stay but certain things cannot be controlled.

"I'm excited for the next chapter and what will happen. I have to make big decisions and it's all good.

"Good luck to Toronto FC next season I will be coming back to see the progress. Glad to have met great people at the club.

"Now I have to take some time to make some decisions where I play."

Being a free-agent, the 32-year-old is in no hurry to find a new club before February 1st but will want to secure his future as soon as possible.

A number of Championship sides are thought to be interested, along with sides in Asia.
