January transfer window 2019: Premier League transfer round-up

The Premier League's January transfer window is upon us with Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham all set to be busy.

Liverpool were the summer's biggest spenders with no fewer than four new arrivals. Goalkeeper Alisson was the headline-grabber with the Brazilian already proving worth every penny of the world-record fee the Reds shelled out for the Brazilian. Could long-term target Nabil Fekir join him next month? United got a couple of new faces in through the door in the summer but it hasn't made a difference with Jose Mourinho out and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in. Will he spend them closer to the top four in the January sales?

Chelsea have made the biggest splash with the signing of Borussia Dortmund's Christian Pulisic while Manchester City, Tottenham and Arsenal could all choose to dip their toes in the water as they battle for an all-important top four spot. We will have all the latest news, views, rumours, gossip and done deals right here so don't touch that dial.

Relive all of Sunday's transfer news as it happened.

So what of Mesut Ozil.

Staying with Arsenal and a new, left-field target has apparently emerged.

James Rodriguez of Bayern Munich is reportedly on the Gunners radar and could be available for as little as £3million.

Six months remain on the two-year loan deal the Colombian signed from Real Madrid 18 months ago and Bayern would be happy to let the attacking midfielder leave early after falling down the pecking order at the Allianz Arena under new boss Niko Kovac.

To Chelsea where their search for a striker could finally be over.

The Evening Standard reports the Blues hope to seal a deal with Juventus over a deal to bring Gonzalo Higuain to Stamford Bridge.

There remains work to be done with the Argentine currently on loan at AC Milan and the Italian giants more keen on a permanent sale rather than a temporary one.

Mauricio Pochettino "ticks every box" to be the next long-term manager of Manchester United, according to club record goalscorer Wayne Rooney.

The Tottenham boss is the club's No 1 choice to fill the Old Trafford vacancy since the sacking of Jose Mourinho last month, and Rooney believes his record at Spurs makes him the ideal candidate for the job.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is in interim charge of United and has overseen seven wins out of seven since taking on the role, with the latest success being a 2-1 Premier League victory over Brighton on Saturday.

Rooney, working as an analyst for ESPN FC, said: "I think first of all you have to give Ole an opportunity, if he continues the way he is going then I'm sure that will be a discussion for (executive vice-chairman) Ed Woodward and the Glazers whether he keeps the job. But if I had the opportunity to appoint somebody then I would go all out for Pochettino.

Back to Chelsea's chase for Gonzalo Higuain and a potential conclusion.

The Argentine international has not been included in AC Milan's squad for the game with Genoa.

This one looks set to be done sooner rather than later. Watch this space.

Arsenal are looking for reinforcements this month with Belgian international Yannick Carrasco one of them.

However, they cannot afford to sign him from Chinese club Dalian Yifang unless they sell Mesut Ozil first, according to Fox Sports Asia.

The 25-year-old is keen on a return to Europe this month.

Over to Tottenham where Christian Eriksen appears unlikely to sign a new deal with the club.

Real Madrid are his No 1 suitors and AS report that they are the only club he will consider moving to.

Yet more bad news for Spurs who would hope to recoup £100m for the Denmark international in any sale.

AC Milan, Porto and Chinese side Guangzhou Evergrande are all said to be interested in what could be a £15m deal.
