Spanish club say release clause must be met

Manchester United and Liverpool have been told they must pay £33m if they want to follow up their reported interested in signing Ivan Rakitic.

The Sevilla skipper has admitted to becoming frustrated with a lack of success at the club and with only a year and a half left on his contract, the club could be forced to sell.

However club president Jose Castro is confident that he can keep the Croatian at the club.

"Ivan Rakitic has a year and a half of his contract remaining. I have absolutely no doubts that we're going to reach an agreement with him," Castro said speaking at a Sevilla Supporters' Club meeting.

"If anyone else is in a rush to have Rakitic, his clause is €40m (£33m) and we'll leave it at that."

It remains to be seen whether David Moyes and Brendan Rodgers' reported interested in Rakitic is strong enough to meet that fee.
