Transfer news: Tottenham confirm £26m deal has been agreed for Valencia striker Roberto Soldado

Tottenham have reached an agreement with Valencia that will see Roberto Soldado move to White Hart Lane, subject to a medical.

Valencia president Amadeo Salvo confirmed yesterday that the fee had been agreed between the two clubs – thought to be Soldado’s release clause of £26m – but that negotiations between agents were holding up the deal.

"The agreement with Tottenham is total," Salvo is quoted as saying yesterday at a restaurant in La Patacona by lasprovincias.es.

"A problem has arisen with the (player's) agents," he added. "(If it is resolved) he will go."

But the north London club have now confirmed that a deal is in place that will see the striker join Spurs upon completion of a medical.

A statement on their official club website said: “We are delighted to announce that we have reached agreement with Valencia for the transfer of Roberto Soldado subject to medical.”

28-year-old Soldado scored 24 goals in La Liga last season, taking his total goal tally for Los Che to 80 in 146 games, having joined from Getafe in 2010 as replacement to outgoing striker David Villa.

He has 11 caps to his name, having had to compete for the lone striker position in Vicente Del Bosque’s Spain team with Villa, Fernando Torres and Fernando Llorente, although he has scored six goals for his country.

He was part of the Spanish squad that finished runners-up to Brazil during this summer’s Confederations Cup.
