Championship side Watford have completed a deal for Tottenham’s goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes on a free transfer.

The Brazilian has signed a one-year deal with Watford, with an optional further 12 months, bringing an end to Gomes’ six year spell at White Hart Lane.

The 33-year-old’s career with Spurs was indifferent to say the least but he amassed 135 appearances for the club.

He spent part of last season on loan at German club Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga, where he played nine times, and now is set to join Watford for next season.

The club posted on their website: "Heurelho Gomes has agreed terms on a one-year deal at Vicarage Road and will officially become a Watford player on July 1."

Gomes was signed for Spurs by then manager Juande Ramos from PSV Eindhoven a fee believed to be around £8 million but a series of high-profile errors saw his career at the north London club become increasingly more fragile.

The signing of Hugo Lloris and his back-up Brad Friedel all but called time on Gomes’ career with Spurs.
