West Brom have announced the signing of Scott Sinclair from Manchester City, with the winger joing the club on a season-long loan-deal.

Sinclair joined City in August last year from Swansea in a deal worth £6.2m, but he made just two league starts and seven appearances in total, leading to the 24-year-old becoming disillusioned with life at the Etihad.

Sinclair hopes to revive his career at the Hawthorns, and the move is with a view to a permanent deal by both parties. Sinclair worked with Baggies boss Steve Clarke during his time in the Chelsea academy, and Clarke believes that Sinclair offers something that his squad previously lacked.

"Scott understands he needs to play football and we're delighted he feels this is the right club for him at this stage of his career," Clarke told the club's official website.

"He's the type of player we were missing from the squad. He's a pure winger who is quick, direct and scores goals - he has proved that over his career.

"He can play off the right or left and improves our attacking options. I know him well and he's a good person who's 100 per cent committed to our cause.

"He's frustrated he didn't get the chances to play at Man City last season and hopefully he'll take those frustrations out on Premier League defenders this season."

Sinclair had also attracted attention from Everton, Newcastle and Stoke, although West Brom were favourites to sign Sinclair as long as they could secure a loan-move first.

The acquisition comes at a time when West Brom are suddenly short on attacking options, following the news that Nicolas Anelka has been given compassionate leave after it was reported his agent has died.

West Brom got off to a bad start in their Premier League opener against Southampton, with a late Rickie Lambert penalty consigning Clarke’s side to defeat.
