Troy Deeney, the Watford forward, has hit out at speculation suggesting he may join Leicester City this summer.

It has been widely reported that the 27-year-old will be the subject of a £30m bid from the Premier League champions after they failed with two earlier offers, the latest of which is said to be in the region of £25m.

Deeney, who scored 13 goals in the League last season, branded the reports as "more made up stories" before offering hope to Watford fans who want him to remain at Vicarage Road.

He wrote on Twitter: "Funny how a couple of days ago I had left for 30 million and today I'm signing a new contract if you don't know nothing keep quiet thanks."

Meanwhile, Leicester have confirmed Jamie Vardy has agreed to extend his contract at the King Power Stadium for four years.

Vardy, named the Football Writers' Footballer of the Year in May, scored 24 goals last season to propel Leicester to the most unlikely Premier League title triumph in recent history.

A statement on Leicester's website on Thursday morning said: "Both parties hope that this announcement will end recent speculation regarding Jamie’s future and confirm his long term commitment to Leicester City Football Club.

"Jamie will continue to focus all of his efforts on trying to achieve success with the England team at the European Championships in France. There will be no further comment from either the club or the player on this matter until the conclusion of the tournament."
