Victor Valdes's Manchester United nightmare has come to an end.

Besiktas have agreed a deal to sign the United goalkeeper on a two-year deal, according to reports.

United manager Louis van Gaal revealed earlier this summer that the goalkeeper was for sale after alleging that the Spaniard refused to play in a reserve match last season.

Since then, Valdes has had a rough ride.

For a start, Valdes was axed from Manchester United's pre-season tour of the United States. Then it was reported that he turned up to training at Carrigton only to discover his training gear had been moved to the dressing-room designated for the Under-21s. Then when Manchester United announced their squad numbers for the new season, the former Barcelona stopper wasn't even allocated one.

He was at least given a ticket to watch Manchester United's opening day win over Tottenham. But whilst all those around him, including fellow goalkeeper David De Gea, were wearing official issue suits and ties - Valdes wasn't. Whilst the suit was of a similar colour and cut to the rest, it didn't have the traditional Manchester City council crest. Nor was he wearing the official red tie. It appeared Valdes had to bring his own jacket along to Old Trafford.

Valdes, 33, signed for United from Barcelona in January after he had started training with the squad while recovering from injury. He made a total of two appearances for the Old Trafford club.
