Bristol City have given Wigan permission to open talks with Nicky Maynard with the two clubs close to agreeing a fee for the striker.
Maynard, 25, had been made available for transfer by the Robins after ending talks over a possible new contract with the club.
A brief statement on City's website read: "Discussions to finalise a transfer fee with the Premier League club are at an advanced stage."
Maynard, an unused substitute in Saturday's 2-1 win over Doncaster, has made 130 first-team appearances for the Robins, scoring 46 goals, since arriving from first club Crewe in a £2.25million deal in July 2008.
