Arsenal are weighing up a £24m offer for Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho, according to reports in Portugal.
Portuguese newspaper O Jogo have reported that Sporting could accept a bid of £24m for the player, despite the 22-year-old having a £37m release clause in his contract.
Carvalho is considered one of the brightest prospects in Portuguese football, and has also interested Manchester United.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger revealed at the weekend that he hopes to bring in at least one more player before the close of the transfer window.
"Who's next? I don't know," Wenger said when asked about possible new arrivals. "There could still be one signing, maximum of two. If a good opportunity comes up we might still do it, but at the moment we are not close to signing anybody."
