Amir Khan wants a "winner takes all" showdown with British rival Kell Brook - but has told the IBF welterweight champion he will have to wait.

Khan, who has fought just twice in the last two years, is set to name his next opponent in the coming days but says he would love a clash with Brook at some stage.

However, the Bolton man is in no hurry to face his compatriot, with both boxers still holding out hope of taking on either Floyd Mayweather or Manny Pacquiao, who meet each other on May 2.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Khan said: "I'd love to go in the ring and fight Kell Brook because it could be his last fight against me, because the thing is I would give him so much of a beating that it could end up being his last fight.

"And maybe that's why he wants it, because he knows that one fight against me will financially secure him for the rest of his life.

"But it's all about timing. If I've got a different route and I want to face the likes of the Mayweathers or Pacquiaos out there, then Kell Brook will have to wait."

Brook retained his IBF welterweight world crown in style at the weekend with a four-round stoppage of Romanian challenger Jo Jo Dan at a sold-out Motorpoint Arena in his native Sheffield.

That came just six months after the unbeaten 28-year-old was stabbed in the leg with a machete in Tenerife.

After the bout, Brook issued a 'come and fight me' challenge to Khan, with his promoter Eddie Hearn adding that Wembley Stadium was free for the pair on June 13.

Khan is supremely confident he would emerge victorious against the 'Special One', but insists he has other priorities at present.

He said: "It's all about timing. Kell Brook was saying he wants to forget about Amir Khan, he wants to fight Pacquiao and Mayweather. These guys don't know who Kell Brook is. Regardless he's a world champion, he's just a name, so they don't know who he is.

"But the thing is straight after the fight (against Dan) he calls me out, I saw him calling me out getting really excited, him and his promoter Eddie Hearn.

"It'll happen one day, and if Kell really wants to fight me, I'll fight him, but the winner takes all.

"I'll do a huge bonus because I know he's going to lose the fight, give him a little guarantee what he gets, but the guy who wins the fight takes a big lump sum. That's how confident I am against Kell Brook."

Regarding his more immediate plans, the 28-year-old Khan said: "I will be announcing who my next opponent will be in the next couple of days because I've already negotiated and when I give my word to an opponent, then I'm not one of them guys to back down."
