Manny Pacquiao has undergone surgery on his injured right shoulder to repair a "significant tear" in his rotator cuff after his defeat to Floyd Mayweather.

With initial fears suggesting Pacquiao could be out of the ring for up to a year, Pacquiao’s spokesman Fred Sternburg has confirmed that the Filipino’s surgeon Dr Neal ElAttrache is “more pleased with the results”.

He also said that Pacquiao is expected to make a full recovery, and comes as positive news amid a wave of negative fallout that has come from the Las Vegas ‘Fight of the Century’ that has become a legal affair.

Pacquiao asked for a painkilling injection shortly before his 12-round unanimous decision loss, after denying that he had a shoulder injury when asked by Nevada officials.

Both Pacquiao and his trainer Freddie Roach have said that the boxer suffered the injury three weeks before the fight, but had made enough of a recovery that they felt he would be at his threatening best against Mayweather. That proved not to be the case as Pacquiao struggled to land his punches and suffered a further injury in the fourth round.

Mayweather eased to a 12-round unanimous decision victory

Officials are now considering whether to take disciplinary action against Pacquiao, with a lawsuit already filed to the federal court in Las Vegas as well as different suits in Chicago and Los Angeles Superior Court, with those who spent money either to watch or bet on the fight asking for fraud damages.
