Tyson Fury next fight: Eddie Hearn lambasts decision to 'pull out' of Deontay Wilder fight to face Tom Schwarz

Tyson Fury will fight German Tom Schwarz on June 16 at the Thomas & Mack Centre in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The fight will be Fury’s first since his controversial split decision draw against Deontay Wilder in the back end of 2018 – and despite many expecting the rematch to take place immediately, both men have seemingly gone their own ways.

Wilder will face WBC mandatory challenger Dominic Breazeale in May, while Fury makes his debut in Las Vegas in what will be the first fight under the ESPN/Top Rank deal he recently signed.

Schwarz remains relatively unknown but is ranked no 2 with the WBO and is unbeaten after 24 bouts, knocking out 18 of his opponents along the way.

Speaking to IFLTV after Charlie Edwards’ unanimous decision flyweight win over Angel Moreno, Eddie Hearn criticised the decision for Fury to back out of a fight against Wilder and instead take on Schwarz.

“It’s a dreadful fight. You’ve just fought Deontay Wilder, you basically beat Deontay Wilder – I know it was close but most people thought you beat him. They’ve ordered the rematch, you’ve pulled out and you’re fighting Tom Schwarz.

"If Anthony Joshua did that, what do you think the reaction would be? I don’t blame Tyson Fury, he’s been given a load of money to have an easy touch. He won’t be the A-side until he’s champion.

“Unless ESPN and Showtime can make that fight [Wilder vs Fury] then that’s over, it’s not ordered anymore.”

Upon hearing news that unified champion Anthony Joshua would face Jarrell Miller on June 1 at Madison Square Garden, Fury mocked the decision.

“I think it is an entertaining fight between two dossers really,” the 30-year-old typically said.

“It will be good for a giggle, won’t it? Two low-level bums fighting it out on that stage, that level with 12,000 people watching. It should be good. We all need a bit of bill-filling, not everyone can top bills in LA.”

And Hearn was quick to point out that if Joshua was to be in Fury’s shoes, he would be criticised for taking on an opponent the level of Schwarz.

“I feel like AJ gets a lot of criticism in terms of his resume and who hes fighting, but then Fury goes and fights Tom Schwarz. No disrespect to Tom Schwarz but he’s not even top 15 in the world. I know he’s ranked with the WBO but list me the top 15 in the world, he’s not even close.

"Tyson’s happy as larry, he’s getting a lot of money for an easy fight.”
