Conor McGregor called a 'p***y' by Donald Cerrone as UFC lightweight eyes showdown with Irishman

McGregor is eyeing a step up to lightweight after defeating former featherweight champion Jose Aldo last weekend

Donald Cerrone has labelled UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor a “p***y” ahead of a possible lightweight showdown, and called out the Irishman for a champion vs champion fight by admitting “I love the idea”.

Cerrone faces current lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos at UFC on Fox 17 this weekend in a rematch of their UFC Fight Night 27 encounter which the Brazilian won by unanimous decision.

However, with Saturday’s Orlando event yet to take place, heads have already turned to a possible showdown for the winner with McGregor following his stunning 13-second knockout of Jose Aldo last weekend.

McGregor has already made his intentions to move up to 155 lbs clear after becoming the featherweight champion, and Cerrone has come choice words for the Dublin fighter should he make the step up to lightweight.

Addressing McGregor in an interview with Bloody Elbow, Cerrone labelled the hottest property in the UFC a “p***y” and laughed off his use of a movement coach by calling him a “f****** ballerina”.

“Come on with it baby. I love it. I love the idea,” Cerrone said of a future fight with McGregor. “Someone asked me if I had a movement coach and I said ‘I have no f****** idea what a movement coach is’. So he can work with a f****** ballerina.

“I don't give a s*** what the kid does, you know. Whatever helps him out. Like sure, if you think movement coach, jumping over sticks and s*** is gonna [sic] help you, it f****** might. I don't know. Maybe I'm in the dark ages here.”

After beating Aldo in a record time last Saturday, McGregor is already looking towards his next fight with a possible return to the Ocagon pencilled in for April. McGregor is keen to fight at lightweight as well as featherweight in a bid to hold both titles at the same time, although Aldo is determined to earn a rematch with his conqueror while Frankie Edgar is also in the picture following his UFC Fight Night victory over Chad Mendes last Friday.

Cerrone is allowing himself to look ahead to a bout with McGregor given he is “100 per cent confident” that he will beat Dos Anjos despite his defeat back in August 2013.

“Dos Anjos, his wrestling and grappling is supposed to be good, but I feel my Jiu Jitsu, wrestling and striking is way better,” Cerrone said. “I’m better than him all across the board. So this fight is all mine. I'm 100 percent confident. I feel the best I've ever felt, literally.”

No 2 ranked Cerrone is vastly experienced in the UFC as he holds an MMA record of 28-6, with Dos Anjos boasting a similar MMA record of 24-7 in the Octagon. McGregor currently holds a 19-2 MMA record but has won all seven of his UFC bouts following the victory over Aldo.
