Equestrianism: Nick Skelton jumps to the front
Olympic showjumping gold medallist Nick Skelton made an immediate impression at the Horse of the Year Show in Birmingham by claiming an emphatic success in the Grandstand Welcome Stakes.
The opening international competition – a one-round speed class – was dominated by the 55-year-old aboard Zero. Their time of 61.64sec was over six seconds clear of their closest challengers, American Lauren Hough and Bockmanns Lazio, while Britain's Ellen Whitaker finished third aboard Lola V.
