England men were denied bronze at the EuroHockey championship as they lost 3-2 to Holland in the third-place play-off in Belgium.
England, coached by Bobby Crutchley, fell behind to an early penalty corner but two set-piece goals of their own had them 2-1 up at the break. But then Holland star Jeroen Hertzberger scored twice to complete his hat-trick and secure the bronze medal.
Meanwhile England women’s captain Kate Walsh has promised they can bounce back from the penalty shoot-out defeat to Germany in Saturday’s final.
“I have absolutely no doubt that this squad has got a gold medal in it,” she said.
