Judo: Willis defies age gap with gold
The teenager Hayley Willis won gold with a stunning display at the Senior British Closed Championships in Sheffield yesterday. The 16-year-old from Stratford in east London won the junior title in the under-48kg category on Saturday before stepping up to the senior level.
The British Judo performance director, Daniel Lascau, said: "I'm very pleased with Hayley Willis because she confirmed her ability at this level." Lascau's Olympic squad were on show at the English Institute of Sport venue, and there were victories for Sophie Cox, Connie Ramsey, Sarah Clark, Sally Conway, Fiona Jones and Sarah Adlington.
