Illness has wrecked Gemma Spofforth's hopes of defending her World Championship 100m backstroke title, failing to make the semi-finals in Shanghai. Britain's hopes in the event now lie with Lizzie Simmonds, who has made the final. Ellen Gandy came fifth and Jemma Lowe eighth in the 100m butterfly and Hannah Miley was seventh in the 200m individual medley final.
