Jones-Bishop and Lunt save Leeds after Salford give them the fear

Last season's beaten finalists Leeds were given a fright by Salford before booking a place in the quarter-finals of the Challenge Cup. The world champions were held 6-6 at the break but scraped through 16-10 thanks to tries from Ben Jones-Bishop and Shaun Lunt in the second half.

Elsewhere, Leigh went through to the last eight after gaining a dramatic 19-18 win in extra-time over Championship rivals Halifax at Leigh Sports Village.

Halifax, beaten at home by the Centurions earlier this month, led 16-6 at half-time after scoring tries through Anthony Thackray, Rob Worrincy and Lee Paterson, with John Duffy replying for the home side.

Leigh edged in front with the aid of tries from Tommy Goulden and James Laithwaite, with Martyn Ridyard adding a third goal, before a Paul Handforth penalty a minute before the end of normal time tied the scores. That sent the tie into extra-time and Ridyard settled it with a drop goal seven minutes later.

London Broncos survived a major scare from John Kear's part-time Batley side to book their place in the quarter-finals.

The Londoners overcame horrendous weather conditions and enthusiastic opponents at Mount Pleasant to grind out a hard-fought victory in a fifth-round tie played in constant driving rain.

Australian half-back Craig Gower led the Broncos' efforts as the Super League outfit claimed their first win away from home for almost 12 months to deny Kear, a cup-winner with Sheffield Eagles and Hull, another famous scalp.

Hooker David Faiumu scored one and made another on his 100th appearance for the Giants as Huddersfield cruised into the last eight at the expense of Swinton with a 52-0 thumping.

The former North Queensland Cowboys star collected Luke O'Donnell's rollback near the Swinton tryline on 12 minutes and darted over to help put the home side 12-0 up. Danny Brough, who had earlier put the Giants in front with a solo score that he converted himself, added the extras.

Swinton, who beat Gateshead 70-10 in the last round, started well. They had a lot of pressure near the Huddersfield tryline early on before Brough opened the floodgates.
