Quins trial for injury-prone Calderwood

Mark Calderwood is being given the chance to resurrect his Super League career at Harlequins. The former Test winger, who played for England in the 2008 World Cup, but who has been without a club since being released by Hull at the end of last season, has joined the London club on trial until the end of next month.

He is in line to make his debut in the Capital Challenge against the London Skolars on Friday. "We are delighted to have Mark on board," said Quins' coach, Rob Powell. "We need more strength in the outside backs and he has a wealth of experience and a proven record as a try-scorer."

Calderwood was born in London, but grew up in Leeds and started his career with the Rhinos, before moving to Wigan and Hull. He has been increasingly plagued by injury, to the point where he managed just four games for Hull last season. If he proves his fitness and earns himself a long-term contract, he will be a direct swap for Will Sharp, who has left Harlequins for Hull.

Castleford's new signing from the Melbourne Storm, the Samoan wing or centre Willie Isa is now able to join the club after securing his visa. Isa is the replacement for James Evans, who has been forced to retire by persistent injury problems.
