The former Great Britain coach Brian Noble is in contention to succeed Phil Veivers as the next Salford head coach, according to the club's owner, Marwan Koukash.

Noble, who was Veivers' boss during his time at Wigan from 2006-09, wants to get back into coaching for the first time since leaving Crusaders in 2010. Tony Iro, the former Wigan centre, will also be a contender. Koukash said: "We do not even have a shortlist as yet but Brian Noble will be considered for it along with Tony Iro."

Meanwhile, Salford have signed the back-row forward Jon Molloy on a three-year deal. The 21-year-old has spent the last three seasons at Huddersfield.
