Super League 2015: Magic Weekend set for Newcastle move as champions St Helens face Warrington and Wigan take on Leeds

The Magic Weekend will take place at St James' Park on 30/31 May and will feature six games as opposed to seven due to the reduction from 14 to 12 teams

Super League's Magic Weekend will have a new venue and fewer matches but will retain a familiar look in 2015.

The annual two-day event, held for the last three years in Manchester after starting out in Cardiff and Edinburgh, will move to Newcastle next season after the Etihad Stadium became unavailable.

St James' Park will host round 16 of the Rugby Football League's elite domestic competition on the last weekend of May, with three matches each day.

That is down from seven in previous years due to a reduction in the number of Super League clubs from 14 to 12 but organisers have retained the same, largely derby-themed fixture format as the last two years.

The only change is that French outfit Catalans Dragons will play Huddersfield after the two clubs' previous Magic Weekend opponents, London Broncos and Bradford, were both relegated to the Championship at the end of the 2014 season.

Salford get the weekend under way at 2.30pm on Saturday, May 30, when they take on Widnes, then it is the Hull derby at 4.45pm followed by the clash of the 2013 champions Wigan and Challenge Cup holders Leeds at 7pm.

Catalans Dragons and Huddersfield are first up on day two at 1pm, followed at 3.15pm by a derby between reigning champions St Helens and Warrington, with west Yorkshire rivals Castleford and Wakefield bringing down the curtain at 5.30pm.

"We have worked closely with all the clubs and our broadcast partner Sky Sports to produce a fixture schedule that will ensure that every minute of every match at Magic Weekend matters.

"And with a comprehensive package of entertainment, both inside and outside the stadium across the whole weekend, I'm sure it will be a truly magical experience for everyone involved."
