A smart start by Dee Caffari and co-skipper Anna Corbella saw them lying sixth of the 14 60-footers going into the first night of the Barcelona non-stop double-handed round the world race.

Leading the fleet in benign conditions on the run down the Spanish Mediterranean coast were Kito de Pavant and Sébastien Audigane in Groupe Bel.

After the first four hours of racing, the IMOCA 60s were separated by just under six miles, with the second British entry, Hugo Boss, skippered in the absence of the recuperating Alex Thomson and crewed by Andy Meiklejohn, one of the back markers.
