Masters 2016: Danny Willett set for Augusta after birth of child

Englishman will be one to watch

Danny Willett, one of the game's most exciting young players, looks set to turn out at next week's Masters after all following the unexpectedly early arrival of his first child.

The Yorkshireman announced he would miss the first major of the year unless his wife had delivered their baby, which was due to clash with the event at Augusta which starts next Thursday.

However, Willett will be delighted with the arrival and said on Twitter late on Wednesday night: "Well well well!! Me and Nicolewillett88 are home with our new addition... Zachariah James Willett!!! Mum and baby doing awesome!! daddio."

Willett, from Sheffield, will be among the ones to watch at Augusta after winning his fourth European Tour title, but the biggest of his career, the Omega Dubai Desert Classic at the start of February. And he won it in style, rolling in a 10ft-birdie putt on the last to take the tournament by a shot and avoiding a play-off with Andy Sullivan and Rafael Cabrera-Bello.

Willett, 28, is one of a new crop of English golfers taking the game by the scruff - including Chris Wood, Matt Fitzpatrick and Sullivan - and threatening to leave the likes of Lee Westwood, Ian Poulter and Paul Casey behind.
