Rory McIlroy is missing this year's Open after suffering an ankle injury sustained whilst having a kick about with friends.

The world No 1 will be ruing his missed opportunity to compete for the Claret Jug at St Andews, the home of golf.

But McIlroy can console himself that he's not the first golfer to miss a major tournament under strange circumstances.
