Tiger Woods has announced he has hired Joe LaCava as his new caddie.

LaCava had been the long-term bagman for Fred Couples, but the pair split in the summer after the golfer decided to reduce his playing schedule.

He then teamed up with Dustin Johnson, who has been playing at the Tour Championship in Atlanta over the weekend and was informed of the news by LaCava after the final round.

Woods has been without a caddie since severing ties with Steve Williams in July, after the New Zealander apparently upset him by working for Adam Scott at the AT&T National without seeking permission.

And the 35-year-old Woods, a winner of 14 major titles, is looking forward to working alongside LaCava on the golf course.

"Joe is an outstanding caddie, and I have known him for many years," he said in a statement on http://www.tigerwoods.com.

"I've personally seen the great job he did for Freddie [Couples]. I'm anxious for us to be working together."

LaCava's first tournament with Woods will be the Frys.com Open from October 6 to 9.

"I'm excited to be working with Tiger," LaCava said. "Tiger and I have been friends for a very long time, and I know what he can do.

"I want to thank Dustin [Johnson] for the opportunity to work with him, and I wish him nothing but the best."

The statement on Woods' official website added: "Woods called Johnson after LaCava first told Johnson personally he would be working for Woods.

"Woods also spoke to Couples to alert him of the decision."
