The US Open champion Justin Rose has withdrawn from this week's AT&T National in Maryland, citing fatigue following his victory at Merion earlier this month.

The news comes as a further blow to the tournament, which benefits the Tiger Woods foundation, with Woods having pulled out last week with an elbow injury.

In a statement issued via the tournament organisers, Rose, who won the event in 2010, said: "I'm disappointed to withdraw from the AT&T National, but the last three weeks have been extremely demanding both mentally and physically. I would play if I felt I could."

Rose honoured a commitment to play in the Travelers Championship in the week after his first major victory, finishing joint 13th on Sunday.
