Lewis Hamilton is to return to his family base in Stevenage to prepare for the F1 season finale in Abu Dhabi.

The Mercedes driver is on the verge of clinching his second Drivers' World Championship, with a second place finish certain to guarantee him the title, even if team-mate Nico Rosberg wins the race on November 23.

The Briton usually resides in Monaco, however he has opted to return to Stevenage in the build-up to the showdown at Yas Marina.

"Lewis is home for most of the week," his father Anthony told Sky Sports. "We’re just going to keep calm and do some family stuff together. We’ll be trying to keep Lewis in a good frame of mind for the next race."

After the Brazilian Grand Prix, in which Hamilton finished behind race winner Rosberg, the Briton declared "I'm going to go into the last race to try to win”. However, with second place almost guaranteed due to Mercedes' superiority, his father is urging him to simply concentrate on finishing.

"Lewis is a racing driver, so he wants to win every race, but you don’t have to win every race," Anthony told Sky Sports. "I always tell him ‘just bring the car home' and if you always bring home the car then you’ll always be one or two."

Double points are available in the final race of the season, meaning any mistakes could be severely punished.
