Organisers at the Rio Games appeared to repair a hole in the track at the Olympic Velodrome with duct tape.

The footage shows workers sticking layers of duct tape over a gash in the wooden track following Joost van der Burg’s crash during Thursday’s men’s team sprint.

Van der Burg suffered a heavy fall on the final lap of the Netherlands’ run while overlapping one of his team-mates.

The men’s team sprint requires three riders to finish the race.

Van der Burg’s crash left the Netherlands with just two seated riders remaining, effectively ending their slim hopes of qualifying ahead of opponents Australia.

The event continued despite the damage done in Van der Burg’s crash and, though a makeshift remedy, duct tape is regularly used on wooden cycling tracks for quick repairs.

Great Britain ultimately claimed the gold medal with a narrow victory over New Zealand in the final.
