Winter Olympics 2014: Russian police choir become internet hit with rendition of 'Get Lucky'

The choir performed at a pre-opening ceremony event and have since become a world-wide hit

Amid the rings failing to light up and talk of Tatu making a comeback, there was one element of the Winter Olympics opening ceremony in Sochi that perhaps didn't get the attention it deserved - the Russian Interior Ministry police choir.

It was aguably the most entertaining aspect of the whole show and it was certainly the campest - and bear in mind there were a lot of dancers, Lycra and crazy headdresses vying for attention last Friday.

The choir, which has been around since 1939, performed a rendition of Daft Punk's 'Get Lucky' during the pre-opening ceremony before most of the world's cameras were rolling.

However, footage of their performance at the Fisht Stadium - and previous covers which have included Sex Bomb and look like something out of Alan Partridge's imagination - are starting to rack up the hits on YouTube.

There has been some uncertainty over whether the choir is an elaborate hoax. However, having seen them perform, The Independent's Olympic correspondent in Sochi has confirmed that the choir is no joke, however funny it may be.
