With more money bet on the Grand National than any other horse race on the calendar, betting on the world’s most famous steeplechase is expected to surpass the £150m barrier for the first time when this year’s event takes place this Saturday.

But where is the smart money going, and which horse will best represent your chances of backing a winner?

Picking a horse in the National can often feel like a lottery given that 40 of them start the race and fewer than half normally finish it, and with all the different factors that influence the race, sometimes it’s impossible to choose the right one.

So why don’t you let your personality pick the right horse for you?

Using our infographic below with help from myracing.com, you can generate which horse you should back depending on a series of questions: will you keep it steady and safe or do you fancy pushing your luck, what do you look for in a horse, is your favourite colour red or blue?

Once you’ve made your selection, you can follow the Grand National with The Independent’s live blog, which will bring you all the action as it happens on Saturday evening.
