Rugby agent Matt Hart, who represents England international Maro Itoje, has been given a 22-month ban by the RFU after an independent disciplinary panel found him guilty of breaching betting regulations.

The panel ruled Hart had breached two World Rugby or RFU regulations - one of which was betting on the outcome and/or aspect of an event and receiving part or all of the proceeds of such betting.

The other charge, which Hart was also found guilty of, was for non-cooperation when information was requested by an RFU anti-corruption officer.

"This decision unequivocally demonstrates that any activity which undermines the integrity of our sport, and exposes players and rugby to potential integrity issues, will be treated seriously by the RFU," said anti-corruption officer Alys Lewis.

"The sums of money involved and the frequency and duration of the betting, coupled with the lack of cooperation with the RFU's investigation, have all contributed to a substantial suspension from rugby union which is welcomed by the RFU."

Hart works for the Stellar Management Group, who boast Saracens, England and British and Irish Lions player Itoje among their rugby clients.

The suspension begins immediately and will end on 11 February 2020.
