Pro 12 round-up: Glasgow Warriors maintain winning start, Cardiff Blues slip up at Leinster and Ulster suffer shock in Zebre

Elsewhere there were wins for top of the table Ospreys and the Dragons while there was no splitting the Scarlets and Edinburgh

Glasgow Warriors continued their winning start to the PRO12 as they scored five tries to beat Connacht 39-21. Stuart Hogg crossed the try-line twice, and Henry Pyrgos, DTH van der Merwe, and Mark Bennett also scored to secure the bonus point. Connacht scored through Dave McSharry, Darragh Leader and a penalty try but it wasn’t enough to maintain their 100% record this season.

A late try each for Cory Allen and Sam Warburton wasn’t enough for Cardiff Blues as they lost to Leinster 37-23 at the RDS Arena. Gordon D’Arcy, Rhys Ruddock, Luke McGrath and Mick McGrath – who scored in the final play to help seal the game – all crossed for the Irish side to add to the four conversions and three penalties that Ian Madigan kicked. Rhys Patchell kicked 13 points for Cardiff.

Scarlets recorded their second draw in four league games as the game against Edinburgh ended 20-20. Harry Robinson scored after just 44 seconds for the Welsh outfit while Liam Williams grabbed the other for his team. Tim Visser and Phil Burleigh scored for Edinburgh who had made eight changes from last week’s loss to the Ospreys. Tom Heathcote – who missed a last-minute penalty – and Rhys Priestland kicked 10 points for their respective teams.

Declan Fitzpatrick received a red card for punching as Ulster lost out to Zebre in Italy. Dario Chistolini scored the only try of the game, while Kelly Haimona kicked a conversion, a penalty and a drop goal for the Italians. Both teams had tries disallowed and the win is the first of Zebre’s campaign.

Dan Biggar kicked 14 points as Ospreys returned to the top of the PRO12 table. Jeff Hassler scored his side’s only try as Biggar and the Ospreys did well to shut down a less-than-impressive Munster. Gerhard van den Heever scored out wide for the Irish and Ian Keatley kicked three penalties, but it wasn’t enough as the game finished 19-14 in favour of the Welsh.

Newport Gwent Dragons beat Treviso to secure their first win of the season thanks to two tries from Hallam Amos. Ashley Smith and Jonathan Evans also scored for the Dragons, while Treviso replied with tries from Mat Luamanu and Leo Auva’a. Thirteen points from the boot of Jason Tovey meant the result would never be in doubt and the match ended 33-15. It means that Treviso are now bottom of the table and the only side in the league not to win yet.
