Pro12 round-up: Munster ruin Rhys Priestland's special day, Ulster end Glasgow's winning start as Ospreys win Welsh derby to go top

Elsewhere there were wins for Leinster, Connacht and Edinburgh while Treviso picked up their first point of the season in the form of a losing bonus point

Rhys Priestland reached 1000 points in a Scarlets shirt but his team were unable to topple Munster on Friday night, losing 17-6 at Thomond Park. Andrew Smith scored the only try of the match for the Irish side, while JJ Hanrahan kicked four penalties. Priestland kicked a drop goal and a penalty for Scarlets but aside from that, he had a pretty poor time with the boot.

Treviso managed to gain their first league point of the season against Connacht at home, but it was a disjointed match with no tries scored and not a lot of entertaining rugby on display. Neither team deserved to win the game but it was Connacht that picked up the 9-6 victory, Craig Ronaldson’s three penalties beating Jayden Hayward’s two.

Edinburgh secured their first win since the opening day of the season with a 24-10 victory over Newport Gwent Dragons. Both teams have been struggling in the league but tries from Tim Visser and Dougie Fife gave Alan Solomon’s team a much-needed four points. Tom Heathcote also kicked 14 points while Matthew Pewtner crossed the whitewash for the visitors.

Leinster turned on the class in the second half of their match against a dogged Zebre, as they eventually ran out 20-3 winners. The score was tied with three apiece at half-time but tries from Ian Madigan and Luke McGrath helped put Leinster out of sight. Madigan finished the match with a points total of 13 after kicking a conversion and two penalties, as the Irish side looked to put their surprise loss to Munster behind them.

Tries from Tommy Bowe and Craig Gilroy helped Ulster condemn Glasgow to the first defeat of their prolific campaign. Both teams defended well but Glasgow’s ill-discipline was their downfall, and Ian Humphreys kicked 19 points to make sure the Scots were always chasing the game. Three penalties from the boot of young Finn Russell was all Glasgow could muster despite their brilliant try-scoring form so far this season. The final score was 29-9.

Ospreys gave themselves a three point gap at the top of the PRO12 table after beating Cardiff Blues 26-15 in the Welsh derby. Dan Biggar kicked 15 points and Dan Evans and Rhys Webb scored a try each for the Dragons. Kristian Dacey and Lloyd Williams responded for the Blues but it wasn’t enough after an impressive first half from the league leaders.
